Job Description

The Knife Trimming Trainer is responsible for training and assisting assigned hourly team members in developing required skills to perform their assigned tasks. To include, development of ergonomic knife techniques; sharpening, maintaining of sharpened tools and cutting/trimming meat (Chicken, steak, etc.). Will work with Production Supervisors to progressively train the employees in their assigned department. Will work with the Production Supervisor to improve training techniques, position requirements and equipment knowledge. The Knife Trimming Trainer will work with all team members but will spend more time with those experiencing difficulty with maintaining a sharp cutting tool.  

Primary Responsibilities

  • Train team members on proper knife sharpening, maintenance and proper knife techniques required to cut/trim meat (chicken, steak, etc.).
  • Develop a competent workforce by utilizing hands-on training methods in the work area.
  • Travel the production line observing for inappropriate knife usage or knife sharpening techniques that could prevent an employee from having a sharp knife.
  • Correct and retrain employees exhibiting behavior that is contrary to training.
  • Schedule training time with employees needing additional training and document.
  • Evaluate employee performance/techniques with cutting tools; train hourly production employees on how to sharpen cutting tools and how to maintain sharpening devices in good condition.
  • Complete progress reports on employees until they qualify for the assigned position. Review progress reports with Production Supervisor on a weekly basis.
  • Suggest changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of department.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

  • Previous experience working in production/manufacturing environment is preferred.
  • Previous experience working in an operator or leadership role is preferred.
  • Previous experience working as a trainer or training employees is preferred.
  • Must be highly skilled in the use of knives to include sharpening techniques, maintenance of knives and proper cutting/trimming techniques.
  • Ability to perform basic math.
  • Ability to evaluate employee performance/techniques with cutting tools.
  • Must have the ability to train and communicate effectively (oral and written).
  • Must be an effective teacher/trainer exhibiting patience and dedication.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to deal with stressful situations calmly and exhibit good judgement.
  • Must have great attention to detail.
  • Must be able to problem solve.
  • Must be able to work in a fast paced environment.
  • Must be able to work extended hours and weekends if needed.
  • Must be able to read and write.
